“Hey, we got four games off Hoover. That’s pretty good,” said Crawford coach Yee Yang, Class of 2007  whose trio of boys doubles teams swept their matches, causing the Hoover to sweat just a little bit after taking a 7-1 lead through the match’s opening boys and girls singles play.

The evening will include high-energy music and dance from Ghana performed by Bolga Zoh-doomah as well as hands-on art-making projects. In addition, each family will take home a free copy of the book “Follow the Drinking Gourd” by Jeanette Winter.

Grand Jury

The county’s 19-member civil grand jury released a report on Thursday calling on the San Diego Unified School District to create policies to better investigate and address adult-to-child bullying, harassment or intimidation by employees or volunteers.

The panel, which makes recommendations to local governments for improvement, found that the district lacked a policy on the matter and that its process for addressing complaints was fraught with conflicts of interest.

Among the grand jury’s recommendations were for the district to eliminate that conflict, as well as provide complainants with timely feedback as to the status of their complaints.

The school district, which has 60 days to respond to the grand jury report, said its legal department is reviewing it.
